Uses of Barcode Equipment

Barcodes are present everywhere be it on food items, shoes, computers, mobile phones or even water bottles. They have made stock taking, selling and many other tasks much easier. Instead of having to type the code, a person can just scan the barcode on an item and get its details in the computer. Doing so increases efficiency and productivity in an organization. Many business owners prefer to use barcode as they can have easy access to the information regarding their inventory and other details. Not only do items make use of barcodes but some countries even put barcodes on identification cards of their citizens. A single scan of the barcode and all the information about an individual can be retrieved. To understand how barcode equipment work, we first need to understand what barcode is.

Barcodes have been around for a few decades now. The most common variation of barcodes is those of vertical lines that have varying width and spacing between them. Each specific item in an inventory or store would have a unique barcode for itself. How the lines are placed is important as it contains data which can be scanned and extracted using barcode equipment. People normally tend to form misconceptions that the barcode only contains the price of the item. However it also contains information such as date of manufacture of the product, country of origin and the expiry date.

Many different types of scanners have been manufactured to be able to decode the information in barcodes. The most common are the pen readers, laser scanners, CCD scanners and camera based readers. Amongst these types of scanners, the most common is the laser scanner. The laser scanner would let out a laser onto the barcode and by measuring the reflected light, the barcode is decoded. Pen type readers work in a similar way as laser scanners. Their only difference is that the user has to manually move the reader across the barcode at a uniform speed. The laser scanner however can scan a code from as far as thirty feet away. The CCD reader has hundreds of tiny light sensors that are lined up in a row in the head of the reader. When the light is scanned upon a barcode, the sensors would measure the intensity of the light that is in front of it. As barcodes are black and white lines, the two colors would absorb light differently. Due to this, the reader is able to decipher the barcode. These readers work in a similar way to laser and pen readers. The difference between CCD readers and other tow readers is that the former measure the intensity of the light whereas the latter measure the amount of light reflected back.

A new generation of codes was developed in the recent years known as the QR code. This form of code is not found on items for sale but instead commonly used in the advertising industry. People can download an application into their phones that is able to read these codes. All they have to do is use their phone camera to take a picture of the code and once scanned, the application would open up a browser taking the person to the site of that advertisement. The use of barcodes have definitely revolutionized product purchasing, stock taking, advertising and even storing data of individuals more efficient.

Cuba - Top Tips for Visitors

Walking in Cuba is a marvellous way to see this absolutely unique country and society. It has a vast range of natural and man-made wonders and a visit here will stay with you as a pleasant memory forever. A few basic preparations and tips may help you enjoy your visit even more.

Credit cards

Outside of major hotels and centres of population, cash is still king and cards may not be accepted. Talk to your tour leaders in advance in order to obtain their specific advice on how to bring cash, cards and cheques with you and what to do with them once you arrive.

Heat

Guided walks in Cuba are typically arranged to suit various levels of physical fitness and ability, however, just a glance at the map will tell you that Cuba can be hot for much of the year. Therefore, you should ensure you bring appropriate clothing and sunscreen protection.

Water

In most major resorts and accommodation centres, bottled water is supplied and drunk as the norm (as is typically the case in countries such as France and Spain). As a general rule, tap water is not considered to be suitable for drinking purposes.

Medical treatment

If you need medical treatment while on a holiday walking in Cuba, you may be pleased to know that the country has one of the highest ratios of doctors to population numbers in the world. Of course, appropriate medical insurance should be considered, as would be the case when visiting anywhere outside of your home country.

Shopping

Rum, coffee and cigars are other classic Cuban products that are known throughout the world and which are typically relatively cheap on the island. There may also be some local craftwork that might also be interesting and good value. Your tour leader will advise on locations and shops to purchase these, as buying from officially licensed outlets is important if you are to be sure of getting the best quality.

Language

Spanish is the official language. English is widely understood in major resorts and hotels but far less so elsewhere. Having a few sentences of basic Spanish at your command may come in very handy!

Major sights

You'll have vast amounts to see in the countryside, the beaches are superb and cities such as Havana and Trinidad are fascinating to explore. Walking in Cuba may be all the more enjoyable if you have done a little research beforehand on its history and culture so you can fully understand the significance of these sites.

Currency and prices

There are two currencies on the island - the Convertible Peso and The National or Cuban Peso. Visitors almost exclusively use the Convertible Peso. Both are accepted, in theory, though you may find that in major hotels and locations, only the Convertible Peso is accepted. Some stores and bars pricing in local pesos may be open to negotiation on prices if you're paying by Convertible Peso. Once again, if you're on a guided holiday walking in Cuba your tour leader will give appropriate advice and guidance.

Tony Maniscalco is the Sales and Marketing Manager for Ramblers Worldwide Holidays. Join us on a holiday walking in Cuba to see scenic locations & landscapes at the best value prices. We offer over 250 guided group walking holidays in over 65 different countries.

The Simple Science Behind GPS Tracking Systems

Anyone who has used a smartphone or a navigation unit in their car knows the benefit of being able to find themselves easily on a map. Since its development in the 1970s and first use in the 1990s, positioning technology has become widespread and affordable. Many do not stop to think about the magic behind the devices and may be surprised to find that the way they work is based on some simple mathematical principles.

GPS tracking systems make use of satellite technology provided by the United States government. Currently there are 24 satellites that orbit the Earth in a specific pattern. The patterns are designed so that at least four of them are visible from any point on the Earth's surface at any time of day. The satellites are carefully monitored and controlled by U.S. government stations around the world. Sensitive antennas ensure the satellites stay on course and transmit data correctly. Without this, positioning would not work accurately.

All 24 satellites are constantly transmitting data at a constant rate back to Earth. They are all synchronized to send out messages at the exact same time. Each message states the satellite's position above the Earth as well as what time the message is sent. A device that uses a GPS tracking system listens for signals from these satellites and uses them to calculate its location using trigonometry.

GPS tracking systems work on the same principles that bats use to "see" at night. Bats are blind, but can tell how far away they are from an object by chirping and listening for the echo. It takes time for sound to travel across the air, bounce off of an object, and return to the bat's ears. If the sound returns quickly, the bat knows that there is an object very close to him. If the sound takes awhile to return to his ears, he knows that it object it bounced off of is far away.

Smartphones and navigation systems use the same idea. When a receiver "hears" a message from a satellite, it compares the time that the message was sent with the time that the message was received. The messages always travel at the same speed, so the device is able to calculate exactly how far away it is from the satellite, much like a bat.

You could be at a few different locations on the Earth's surface and be the same distance from a satellite, so the response from one satellite is not enough to determine the device's location. However, as more signals are detected it is possible to pinpoint a location more accurately. GPS tracking systems only need 4 satellite signals to get an accurate lock on a location, which is why the satellites are positioned so that four at a time can be seen anywhere on Earth.

By "looking" at a map and the position of the satellites in the sky, a computer can determine where it is on that map. Furthermore, if the computer constantly checks to see where it is, the speed that the device is moving can be calculated. From this data, all kinds of useful information can be displayed on navigation devices and smartphones.

Tour the USA the Equestrian Way

Wouldn't it be great to tour the USA on horseback? You could be riding through the Midwestern Prairies or Colorado's Rocky Mountains...

While this may have to remain a mere dream for most, there is a very doable alternative: planning a tour of the country based around visiting some of its best stables in states from California to Maine. These could include:

Chattahoochee Hills

Bouckaert Farm in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia is a modern complex with dedicated competition, turf dressage, and cross country areas set in a beautiful area with views across Browns lake and Chattahoochee River. It's a mere 15 miles away from Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

During the summer months, the complex hosts events most weekends. In 2012 one of the major competitions to take place there is the Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships.

Kentucky Horse Park

Kentucky is unofficially referred to as the "horse capital of the world" and so is an excellent destination for equestrians from across the globe.

Visitors should venture to Kentucky Horse Park where kids and adults alike will be entertained at the International Museum of the Horse, on horse farm tours, and trail or pony rides.

The park hosts regular events such as the 2012 North American Juniors and Young Riders' Championships. You can stop by the Hall of Champions or stroll along the Memorial Walk of Champions to find out more about past competition winners.

Fitch's Corner

Fitch's Corner is a private horse boarding and sales facility in the lovely Millbrook, New York. It's home to a lively horse riding community that hosts regular events such as the renowned Fitch's Market gathering retailers and exhibitors from the local area and further afield for a weekend of shopping and socialising that culminates with the Sip, Shop and Nibble event on Saturday evening.

To further enhance the community spirit, each year an individual, couple or organisation receives the Fitch's Corner Award in recognition of their leadership and support within the wider Millbrook community.

Other special occasions in the club's social calendar include the Blue Jean Ball, and Collector Car Parade. In 2012, Fitch's Corner will once again host the USEA Area 1 Regional Championships.

Equestrian Essentials

Before touring the USA's horse riding facilities and attractions, you need to get your hands on a few equestrian essentials to help you look and feel the part. The best equestrian clothing and footwear combines functionality and fashion.

Kit yourself and your travel companions out in a pair of quality riding boots, and jodhpurs. Velvet riding hats are a classy addition.

Remember to stock up on carrots to treat all the horses you'll meet along the way. But consult their owners first to see if it's OK to supplement their diet. While sugar cubes used to be a popular treat, the trend has begun to decline as people have realised that sugar can do more harm than good to the animals.

Understanding A Sole Trader's Operating Costs

Starting a business is challenging. Even if you have the resources to get your venture off the ground and enough connections in the business to get the ball rolling, you still need to be aware of the expenses that the business will generate and the best way to manage your operating costs.

Sole Proprietorship

Whether your business is within a service industry like accounting, gardening or construction or as a skilled tradesman like an electrician, plumber or mechanic, you will have costs that need to be paid and accounted for. These costs may include transportation if your work involves an element of travel, or a property rent, if you are working from an office or goods yard. More often than not, these costs will be incurred monthly.

Accounting

Even as a sole trader you will need assistance from other professionals in order to function. Unless you are an accountant, you will need one to help your business grow. Keeping your personal accounts and your business accounts separate is the first way of establishing where the company's money comes from and goes to, but that doesn't tell the whole story. A qualified accountant will be able to show the owner where money could be saved.

Tax

Having the services of an accountant is particularly important when tax is considered. An accountant's tax saving strategies could save the business money. Using an accountant also saves you time that can be invested in growing the business by taking on more work.

Bills

Everyone has bills to pay and it's the same for a small business. Whether the bills are for the cost of energy like electricity, or loans against machinery or vehicles, their costs have to be taken against any revenue to establish the profit. Some costs are fixed and are easy to calculate. These costs include any loans or rent agreements in place. Other costs, like the cost of materials and utility bill charges, vary from month to month.

Most utility companies allow for monthly direct debits that create a fixed cost for a set period of time. If you choose to do this you should make sure that the amount you pay covers more than the estimated monthly usage, as it's always better to overestimate the cost. The same goes for any cost that is not fixed.

Final Word

Sole traders don't need to take a wage, as they are entitled to all of the company's profits. Understanding the company's costs and managing them well ultimately leads to greater profits for the owner. Before a business is started, traders should make a list of the associated costs and make sure that the estimated revenue will exceed the costs by enough to provide a living.

Open Signs - Essential Display Signs for Small Businesses

Any small business owner knows the importance of attracting new customers in from the street. Passers-by and chance visitors are often what make the difference between breaking even and making a profit. So it's surprising to find that many have neglected one of the most basic advertising tools. A brightly lit Open sign strategically placed in the shop window or doorway is simple, affordable and essential.

A lighted open sign makes it clear and unmistakable that you are open for business and ready to serve a customer. It catches the eye and can often be the deciding factor in whether a person driving by will stop and come in. Many people are easily put off trying a new shop or business by the exterior look of the premises. If the door is closed and they are unsure that the shop is open, they will most likely walk right by. The open sign takes away any uncertainly. It is welcoming and inviting, calling "Come on in!"

An open sign is even more essential if your business opens for longer hours than the surrounding shops and businesses, or is open on public holidays and weekends. Your lit open sign will act as a beacon to those looking for last minute supplies or services, when those all around you are pulling down shutters and hurrying home.

Many signage specialists offer very affordable ready-made Open signs. They usually come as either neon signs or LED signs. There are many articles already written on the various advantages of each style, so we won't go into that here. Suffice it to say that the costs are fairly similar and the ultimate choice depends on personal preference.

Look for a ready-made sign with dimensions that will fit into the space you have available. You don't want to have to order a custom made sign if you are on tight budget, and there are so many simple and effective signs available ready-made in all shapes and sizes that there really is no need to. You can even get more elaborate LED signs with graphics of steaming cups of coffee, or pizza hot from the oven, if you want to get more visually interesting.

Once your Open sign goes up and shines out into grey winter streets, or dull early mornings, you'll be surprised how much more visible your business will become, just with this very simple addition to your business signage.

Tec-Know Signage specialises in supplying signs wholesale to the Australian market and neighbouring countries. Neon Signs Vs LED Display Signs - An Objective Comparison

Comparing neon signs with LED signs can be tricky. There are so many articles out there extolling the virtues of LEDs and portraying neon as an inferior has-been, that it is tempting to think that neon is dead. But this is simply not true, as a stroll down any high street or mall will tell you. LEDs do have many advantages, but neon signs also have a place. We'd like to put forward a more objective comparison of the two forms of business signs.

First of all let's make it clear that we are talking about good quality LED signs and components here. Bargain basement products of any sort will not live up to the reputation established by the best products in the market. Beware of cheap, no-name brands in the LED market.

Energy consumption
This is the trump card always played by LED advocates and it's a good one. LEDs do use a considerably reduced amount of energy to run as compared with neon signs, 70% less is the figure most quote. If you are running several large signs you will notice the difference in your annual electricity costs if you switch to LED display signs. However if you are talking about one or two small signs the difference will be less marked and this may not be the deciding factor when you are making your choice.

Cost
The purchase costs of the two sorts of sign are not very different, as long as you are talking about a quality brand of similar size. Installation costs can be slightly higher for neon, as the signs are slightly bulkier and heavier than the LED equivalent. Good quality models of both sorts require very little in the way of maintenance over their lifetime.

Durability
The expected lifespan for both neon and LED signs is about 10 years of regular usage. While neon signs do use glass tubes, which are more prone to breakage than LEDs, sturdy protective casing should minimise this risk.

Brightness
Until recently LEDs couldn't match neon for brightness, but advances in technology have brought them on a level with neon. However LEDs do tend to lose brightness gradually over the years, so that towards the end of their lifespan they will only be half as bright as they once were. Neon on the other hand generally retains its brightness right to the end, when it will flicker and go out completely.

Visibility
LED lights give a very focused light beam. This is an advantage in that the light is very clear sharp and directed. However it does mean that an LED sign is very two dimensional and best viewed from the front. Neon signs give out light from all sides of their tubes, so can be seen from the side and reverse as well as the front. This can be a factor if you are trying to increase your visibility and attract business from passers-by walking along the street.

Versatility
LED display signs can be programmed to have changing images or lettering, or animated graphic displays that keep alternating as different lights come on and off. Neon signs, while they can be made to show an animated design with different tubes switching on and off, have less overall versatility.

Image
LED display signs tend to be seen as modern, but often rather clinical and cold. Neon signs are perceived as warmer and more inviting, with a retro feel that often suits small businesses attracting individuals.

Check out their LED lightboxes, neon signs, display signs, banner stands, as well as all the tools, hardware and electrical components to make the graphic producer's work easier, faster and safer.

Effective Meetings - Learn These 8 Strategies

Does anybody choose meetings?

Meetings - you either enjoy them or dislike them. They seem a fundamental evil to many. Whether board meetings or any other company meetings. If you enquire if they are necessary the response is likely to be, 'certainly'. Are they beneficial - most might say, 'Never'. This attitude would seem to suggest that it's not the purpose but the composition of effective meetings and how they are handled which can really annoy people.

Do you recognize someone that complains about meetings? Finds them a total waste of time? Perhaps, if it is your role to arrange and run a meeting you might even approach this with a level of trepidation and an increase in stress.

Do you have a strategy?

It is unusual for a meeting to have no agenda in the slightest. The initial item on the agenda, particularly the very first in a set of meetings, ought to be an outline of your meeting strategy. This will determine what you hope to achieve from the meeting, how you want to conduct it and your hopes of those at the meeting. Therefore, in summary you may want to address:

Do you have a goal:

What is the objective of the meeting? Clearness here will spare a lot of distress when dealing with the meeting.

How often do you want meetings?

State the frequency of a string of meetings and assess suggestions from individuals attending. Don't forget, meetings use up time.

What is the output?

Define what you hope to be the end products from the meeting. For instance, what will be the structure of the minutes of meetings and any actions that they might include? This is a very good time to prompt people that they will be accountable for actions that they receive. If these are not done in a prompt manner it could impact other people at the meeting.

The chairperson:

Who will it be and how will that individual conduct the meeting? This could well be a Project Manager, but, other people will hold effective meetings beyond official projects.

The secretary:

Who will it be? Don't demand volunteers at the meeting. People don't enjoy being engineered into a job they might not like and may not actually be a good match for it. They may also be proficient at saying, 'no'. Ask an individual to become the secretary ahead of the meeting and describe the responsibilities.

Distribution of the meeting minutes:

This is very crucial. It's often a good strategy for the secretary to distribute a draft copy to those in the meeting and suggest comments on factual matter and the ownership of actions. Give a final date for the suggestions and a final date to complete and circulate the minutes and stick to it.

Control and Management

The principal basis for convening a meeting will be for the control of some aspect of an activity or string of activities. They develop into a forum for bringing up issues, identifying project progression against any plans and the achievement of certain actions. It's a chance for communicating over departments that might not always be attainable.

Ideally, some form of decision making will arise. There will have been triumphs and this gives the chairperson a chance to praise the team and individuals providing motivation.

The Wonders of Nha Trang

If you're looking for the perfect holiday destination in Southeast Asia, look no further than the world-famous seaside resort of Nha Trang in Vietnam. Walk along beautiful beaches, swim and dive in the warm waters of the Pacific, even feed wild monkeys during the day, while you spend your nights socialising or enjoying its more urban offerings.

The Wonders of Nha Trang

While Nha Trang is considered more lively and urban in character than other beach destinations, such as Mui Ne and Phu Quoc, the island's natural beauty and cultural heritage remain its greatest attractions. For one thing, it is considered the best diving location in Vietnam, as evidenced by the number of dive shops. Listed below are some of the must-see sights in Nha Trang, Vietnam. Walk, swim, dive, or socialise, you can do it all and have it all during your trip to this beautiful island.

Monkey Island

This 33 ha island located at Nha Phu Lagoon is a great base for diving and snorkelling. The beach itself is pristine and the water nearly always calm, which is why it is popular for families with children who come to Vietnam. Walk along its beaches and you'll see proof of the island's untouched state: more than 1,000 monkeys that freely roam the paths and the nearby forest. Visitors can feed them fruit or corn, but watch out as they can be pretty grabby and their numbers may sometimes be overwhelming. They are generally friendly and safe to interact with, though, and are a great favourite among tourists.

Thap Ba Hot Springs

If what you're looking for is to recuperate from the stresses of life on your walking holiday, look no further than the Thap Ba Hot Springs, a destination that is considered the most relaxing place in Vietnam. Walk around in this serene village-styled spa and you'll feel immediately relaxed. The springs are famous for the healing and therapeutic powers of the mud and mineral waters. Here, tubs (which can seat up to around four people, perfect for a spa day with your friends) are filled with hot mud and heated to approximately 38 ï‚°C. Bathers sit in the hot mud for around 15 minutes, after which they shower off the mud and head for the mineral baths, which are slightly hotter at 40 ï‚°C. There's generally no limit to how long you can stay soaking at the bath, but more than 40 minutes is not recommended. Then, you're free to enjoy the spa's swimming pool or opt for any of the spa's other services and offerings.

North Eastern Thailand

I met my wife when on holiday in Pattaya, which is about 45 minutes south of the new international airport by taxi and the airport is about halfway to Bangkok. I met her on the first day I arrived on a double date with a friend who was already there. Within a fortnight she took me back to meet her family in what I later found to be north-eastern Thailand.

Isaan is known as north-eastern Thailand as well, which is really confusing because where we are is further north but not so far east. Anyway, most people who call Isaan the north east live in Bangkok and Pattaya, the two big hang-outs for foreigners (called farang or falang in Thai), and we are all north-east from there.

One glance at the map and you will see what I mean. If you travel north out of Bangkok, eventually you will come to Phitchit, which is formally the beginning of the north and the northern race as they call themselves. Then comes Phitsanulok, once a capital of Thailand. Another 40 kilometres north is Sukhotai and Sri Satchenali, Thailand's first capital and the spiritual home of Thailand. The original city is still there, uninhabited but largely restored.

I live in the next province to the east called Uttaradit, which borders on Laos to the east and the old mountain kingdom of Nan to the north. About 10% of the population of Nan are of the various Hill Tribes. One of these, the Mlabri, are nomadic hunter-gatherers who live in temporary shelters made from branches and leaves. Until very recently, they were living a stone-age life and their language had never been heard by Westerners before 1978 as far as we know.

This is 250 km north-east from where I live. Sukhotai is around 30 km east. So much difference within 300 km. This area was part of the old kingdom of Lanna, which means ' a million rice fields' or even 'millions of rice fields'. Phichai or Fort Phichai, 12 km away, used to be the capital of Uttaradit province. Phraya Phichai Dap Hak (Phichai of the two-handed swords) fought here in the late 18th Century. He is Thailand's most esteemed and famous warrior.

Anyway, I live in among all this lot. Regrettably, I do not speak Thai well enough for anyone to explain it to me and nobody that I know speaks English well enough to do it either. Even my wife. I wish I knew more about this fascinating place where very very few foreigners ever venture.

There are five of us here at the moment in a 20 km radius. An English teacher, a Canadian teacher, a retired Dutchman and a retired Englishman and me. Usually there is an Irishman and another Canadian, but they have gone home for a spell. I normally do not see a foreigner or hold a full conversation for weeks on end. And I love it here.

Wrongful Death Attorney: Why Should You Sue for Wrongful Death?

You probably know that hiring a wrongful death attorney will not being your loved one back, but there are various other benefits that may make the lawsuit worth your time. Of course, the main point of this kind of lawsuit is to get money you are owed after a friend or relative dies. That alone is often a good reason for this type of case.

After your loved one dies, your whole family will face funeral expenses you never thought you would have to pay. Of course, some people have the money for this all set aside before they die, or they have an insurance policy that covers most of the expenses. However, not everyone is this prepared. Another thing you might not know is that funerals can cost thousands of dollars, and that is not including a headstone or cremation. Your family will be facing lots of bills that were not considered before, so it may make sense to hire a wrongful death attorney just to recoup these costs.

In addition, there are other bills to pay after someone you love dies. If he or she was at a hospital for any length of time, you will have to pay the related bills. Even if there was health insurance, there are probably deductibles or services that have not been covered, and these need to be paid for. If you get a settlement after the incident, you should be able to easily pay off these bills. Additionally, if there was property damage to a home or car during the incident, the settlement should be enough to pay for the necessary repairs so no one has to do it out of pocket.

Another reason to hire a wrongful death attorney and get a lawsuit started is that this kind of action may be enough to ensure the at-fault party is more responsible next time. If the driver caused a car accident, possibly due to drinking and driving or falling asleep at the wheel, he or she might have learned a lesson to be safer while driving. For some people, knowing they caused someone to pass away is enough to make them be more careful, but for others, it takes a lawsuit that costs them a lot of money.

If you are not yet sure whether to sue, you should meet with a wrongful death attorney to find out your choices. Getting some information can allow you to determine if you should move forward with the lawsuit. For many people, the answer is yes.

How to Avoid a DUI - Tips for Responsible Drinking

Drink responsibly or you'll get a DUI. You hear it all the time. However, it's not always enough to keep you from indulging just a little too much.

On average it takes about an hour for a drink to run through your body and no longer register on a blood alcohol test. A "drink" is usually defined as a beer (12 oz), a glass of wine (5-6 oz), straight liquor (1.5 oz), or a mixed drink containing 1.5 oz of liquor. Alcohol content of certain beverages can vary widely. Grain alcohols tend to be more "pure," meaning they have higher alcohol content. The higher the alcohol content, the more your blood alcohol content (BAC) will increase.

Slow down. No chugging. No funneling. No drinking games. This can raise your BAC rapidly and cause problems from slurring and impaired judgment to alcohol poisoning and possibly death. While a lot of us wish we were back in college partying with friends, the risks outweigh the benefits, especially if you end up in handcuffs at the end of the night with a pending DUI charge. Plus, slowing down allows you to enjoy each drink instead of rushing through a blur of fruity drinks and shots.

One-to-one. Follow this rule of one non-alcoholic drink after every alcoholic drink. This will help give your body time to metabolize the alcohol along with allowing your brain to better register just how much the drinks are affecting you. Additionally, you have a better chance at avoiding a hangover the next morning, and we all like that thought.

Don't accept drinks from anyone you don't know or drinks of which you aren't sure about the contents. Mixed drinks can be misleading, because they don't taste like booze. From margaritas to screwdrivers, these drinks taste more like sugary refreshments. Even worse about mixed drinks is that they sometimes have more than one kind of liquor in them. This can cause BAC to increase significantly even though it doesn't feel like you're drinking more than a regular drink.

Hot wings, pizza, and beer -- sounds like a dream come true for many sports fans. Well, you're doing it right. Breads, carbs and protein can help absorb alcohol. This will keep your BAC from rising rapidly and allow your body to properly metabolize the alcohol.

Mixing food with alcohol can be a great help. Mixing pills with alcohol can end badly. Pills can mask or intensify the effects of alcohol on your body. This can completely throw off your BAC levels on various tests.

Obviously, the best thing to do is have a designated driver. If one is not available, find a cab company to get you home safely. But if you do have the misfortune of encountering a police officer, be courteous and cooperate as fully as you can while still remembering that you have rights. You have the right to refuse a field sobriety test.

Keep in mind that the police officer can still arrest you and take you to the station under the suspicion of DUI. If this does happen, keep your options in mind. Make your phone call and determine the best course of action for your current situation.

After they've been hit with a DUI Cornelia Georgia residents should be aware of their rights. Educate yourself at http://www.northgeorgialegal.com.

Varying Video for Effective Law Firm Web Marketing

Video is becoming increasingly important to law firm web marketing. Website and YouTube video can help law firms with website stickiness, improve professionalism, optimize their law firm SEO and leverage social media marketing to carry their message to both their existing clients and prospective clients. Let's consider a few YouTube statistics. YouTube, owned by Google since 2006, boasts some truly amazing metrics. For example, as of this writing, YouTube's website states that it attracts over 800 billion unique users visits each month and over 3 billion hours of video are watched each month. 72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, and in 2011 YouTube had more than 1 trillion views or around 140 views for every person on Earth. Clearly web video is attracting and retaining a large following.

How can you optimize your law firm marketing content for YouTube? Strength is represented in numbers and variety. Once you have created a page (or space) on your law firm website, you should also create a YouTube channel. Optimize your channel for your target prospects and make sure your description and tags incorporate the long tail keywords germane to your target audience. Leverage your law firm logo and branding to make your YouTube channel look professional and current. Then, populate both your channel and your law firm website with compelling content across multiple video mediums. For example, you can use PowerPoint Vlogs, talking head recordings (using video from your own laptop), Skype recorded videos, professionally shot and edited videos and recorded webinars. There are pros and cons with each of these videos relating to your law firm web marketing.

PowerPoint Vlogs:These are fast and easy to create and post. You will achieve better results if your slide deck has been created by a graphic artist. Vlogs are typically a more casual type of video, and can be used to rapidly convey changes in a specific industry.

Recorded Webinars: Webinars can be recorded and posted to your law firm website or YouTube. Shorter is usually better, as patience can wear thin for even an interesting, albeit lengthy webinar recording. Webinars offer the advantage of looking and sounding "professional", though quality can vary based on the vagaries of the internet throughput and recording devices used on the day of the webinar.

Talking Head Recordings:Quality varies on the recording device used and the professionalism and experience of the speaker. For example, using a built in high def camera can work well with some laptops, I usually suggest multiple practice sessions across several devices, to compare and contrast the resulting video. Make sure your background looks professional, an office background, if not cluttered, often looks best. You can also record in an empty courtroom, or on a quiet weekend, in front of a court house. This can be done with a computer or other digital recording device.

Skype Recorded Videos:Skype interviews are often easier for the speaker because they are responding to "interview" questions and don't need to be as rehearsed when compared to Vlogs or talking head videos. Interviewers can utilize on camera or off camera (split screen) technologies. Skype does not offer recording capabilities, a third party software solution must be used.

Professional Videographer Videos:There are two types of these videos, those which feature or include live speakers, and those which use photos or images which convey your value proposition. The former might include a message from the managing partner or other attorneys, the latter might include images of your offices and other related law firm materials, or images pertaining to your target market.

Once you've added videos to your YouTube channel and website, leverage these for your social media marketing campaigns. Post, Tweet, Pin, Like, Link, Blog and Vlog your content. Push your video out to your market using LinkedIn, Facebook, Tiwtter, Google, YouTube, Pinterest, Blogs, etc. Make sure your website links and call to action are prominently noted on both your channel and each video. Vary your video and vary your content for optimum efficacy. Educational videos typically work best. One of the fastest growing areas of YouTube relates to "How To" videos. Whether you're discussing how to how to aggressively defend lawsuits, how to mitigate liability or how to ensure driver safety, video is a great way to reach your target markets.

Remember, all of your content does not need to specifically relate to law, as long as it is professional and interesting and results in quality traffic and interaction with your target market. Note that your content will vary drastically based on your practice. For example, attorneys specializing in family law will have a different approach, look and feel than those practicing corporate litigation. Your video content should "speak" to the audience you are targeting. And when in doubt, you can create your own informal focus group, sending your video links to trusted clients, friends and colleagues for their candid feedback. If your law firm has yet to begin your video law firm web marketing initiative, there is no time like the present. If you have already begun, remember to vary your video, your content and your web marketing distribution for optimum results.

Understanding the Benefits and Consequences of Tax Bankruptcy

Tax bankruptcy is generally for businesses or individuals who want to wipe out or reduce the taxes they owe to the government through bankruptcy. However, bankruptcy and associated laws are always changing. Read on to learn more about the benefits and consequences of tax bankruptcy.

To go through tax bankruptcy, two forms of protection are typically used: Chapter 7 and Chapter 13. Under Internal Revenue Code 1398, added by the Bankruptcy Taxes Act of 1980, the filing of a tax bankruptcy petition under Chapter 7 creates an "estate" which is then treated as a separate taxable entity. This estate then files its own returns and pays taxes on its own income. The filing of a tax bankruptcy petition under Chapter 13 creates an estate for purposes of the bankruptcy taxes code, the estate is not treated as a separate taxable entity.

Filing a bankruptcy and federal taxes petition is like putting kryptonite in front of Superman. Once you file this type of bankruptcy, an "automatic stay" arises and all IRS-enforced collection action must cease temporarily. As soon as it learns of the filing of a bankruptcy taxes petition, the IRS posts its computer system with a "bankruptcy hold" code to avoid inadvertent violation of the automatic stay. In this manner, help is very quick and effective.

Filing for bankruptcy can lead to discharging your tax debts as well as other debts. Doing so, can give you a great new start. However, when it comes to bankruptcy and taxes, it is extremely important to consult an experienced criminal tax attorney, as the rules concerning bankruptcy are quite complicated for determining if and when a taxpayer can be relieved of income tax liabilities through a bankruptcy filing. For example, the IRS is now allowed to take some limited steps to determine and assess tax debts despite the filing of a tax bankruptcy petition. Among other things, their permitted actions include:

· Demanding any and all delinquent returns be filed

· Issuing summonses to determine the true tax liability

· Auditing taxpayer's returns

· Issuing a notice of deficiency

· Assessing uncontested liabilities

· Re-filing a notice of federal tax lien

There is also proposed federal legislation that would make it more difficult to discharge your debts with bankruptcy. So, if you are considering bankruptcy, or you believe that bankruptcy would be an effective method of relieving you of your debt, consult with a bankruptcy and federal tax attorney first - as soon as possible.
